The Original Extenda Fenda – Why a Front Mudguard Extension Keeps Your Bike Cleaner

What Is an Extenda Fenda? The Original Front Mudguard Extension Explained

The Extenda Fenda is the original front mudguard extension, invented and trademarked by Pyramid in the late 1980s. Designed to extend the length of your motorcycle’s front guard, it reduces road spray, protects vital components, and helps keep your bike cleaner in all conditions.

Today, the term “Extenda Fenda” is widely used across the motorcycle world to describe front fender extenders, but Pyramid remains the original creator, with over 30 years of continuous development and hundreds of bike-specific designs covering almost every category of road motorcycle.

Why Fit a Front Mudguard Extension?

Modern motorcycles often have short, stylised front mudguards that leave the lower engine, exhaust headers and radiator exposed to water, grit, stones and road salt. An Extenda Fenda extends the coverage of the guard, intercepting debris at the source – the front tyre.

  • Keeps your bike cleaner by dramatically reducing water and dirt thrown rearwards
  • Protects the radiator from stone damage, one of the most vulnerable and expensive components
  • Reduces winter salt exposure to help prevent corrosion
  • Limits spray onto exhaust headers and lower engine casings
  • Improves long-term reliability by keeping grit away from cooling fins and seals
  • Completes the look of the front end with a more purposeful, finished appearance

How an Extenda Fenda Protects Your Radiator and Engine

At speed, the front tyre acts like a high-velocity slingshot, firing stones, water and abrasive debris directly into the path of the radiator and exhaust headers. Even small impacts can flatten cooling fins or cause leaks over time.

By extending the mudguard (often by 130mm or more, depending on model), the Extenda Fenda intercepts this spray pattern, deflecting it downwards before it reaches vulnerable components.

The Original – Invented and Trademarked by Pyramid

Pyramid introduced the Extenda Fenda in the late 1980s, creating a product category that is now used worldwide. The name is a registered trademark, and the concept has been refined for over three decades using model-specific tooling and precision design.

From sports bikes and nakeds to adventure and touring machines, Pyramid now produces hundreds of bike-specific Extenda Fendas, each shaped to follow the exact contour of the original front guard for an OEM-quality fit.

Materials and Construction

Every Extenda Fenda is manufactured from high-impact ABS plastic, chosen for its strength, flexibility, and resistance to stone strikes and weathering. Unlike universal stick-on extenders, each Pyramid Extenda Fenda is:

  • Individually moulded for each motorcycle model
  • Contoured to follow the original mudguard shape
  • Designed for long-term durability in all weather

Installation – Drill Fit or Stick Fit

Every Extenda Fenda kit is supplied with two fitting options:

  • Plastic rivets for a secure mechanical fix
  • Stick Fit Pads for no-drill installation

Both methods are fully reversible and do not affect cooling, tyre clearance, or suspension movement. Typical installation time is 15–30 minutes with basic tools.

One of the Best Winter Protection Upgrades

In wet and salty conditions, the front wheel is the primary source of corrosive spray. Fitting an Extenda Fenda significantly reduces the amount of contaminated water reaching:

  • The radiator core
  • Exhaust headers
  • Engine cases
  • Front of the crankcases

For year-round riders, commuters, and tourers, it is one of the most effective and low-cost protection upgrades available.

Compatibility

Pyramid manufactures Extenda Fendas for hundreds of motorcycle models across:

  • Sports bikes
  • Naked bikes
  • Adventure bikes
  • Sport-tourers
  • Touring motorcycles

Each version is bike-specific and designed to integrate seamlessly with the original front mudguard.

Extenda Fenda FAQ

What is an Extenda Fenda?

An Extenda Fenda is a front mudguard extension that increases the length of the original guard to reduce spray, stone impact, and dirt thrown onto the engine and radiator.

Do front mudguard extensions really work?

Yes. By intercepting debris at the front tyre, an Extenda Fenda significantly reduces the amount of water, grit and stones reaching vulnerable components.

Is it better than a radiator guard?

They serve different purposes. A radiator guard protects against direct impact, while an Extenda Fenda reduces the amount of debris reaching the radiator in the first place. Many riders fit both for maximum protection.

Will it affect engine cooling?

No. The design does not block airflow to the radiator and has no effect on normal cooling performance.

Will it rub the tyre?

No. Each Extenda Fenda is designed with correct clearances for full suspension travel and tyre movement.

How long does fitting take?

Typically 15–30 minutes using basic hand tools.

Is it suitable for winter riding?

Yes. It is one of the most effective upgrades for reducing road salt spray and corrosion during winter use.
